Top Entertainment Places in Second Life
Choosen by the Members of First Opinions Panel, August 2008
This turned out to be a more complicated theme to survey because:
- Many musical or dancing events are one-shot or short-term
- Preferences can vary so much. We received over 469 responses mostly to separate places, making it difficult to find those to list as in our other TOP TEN pages
- One issue is a very popular place, e.g. a cafe or nightclub for dancing, will quickly reach its SIM limit of 25- 35 and not allow others to enter.. or the lag will make it less likely newcomers will stay.
We are open to suggestions on how to report this better in our next update.
For example, perhaps have separate lists for clubs, entire islands, etc. Send your suggestions to Andy.
Special Note
Some of the places that show up as “popular” in SL searches are in-fact “camping grounds.”
• These take advantage of the fact that if someone stays more than 15 minutes in a location, they are counted as 2 people by the Second Life metrics system.
• Stay 30 minutes and 1 second and you are counted as 3 people! So these places use “camping” scripts that make your avatar dance, clean or do other things, or nothing, and pay you a few linden dollars.
• Most people put their avatar there and walk away from their computer. Our TOP TEN lists show which places are REALLY popular and why. |
